JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE ARRESTED FOR DRIVING WHILE INTOXICATED

 

According to local officials who spoke to the Insight Harbor, singer Justin Timberlake was arrested in New York for driving while intoxicated. The Suffolk County District Attorney's Office released a statement on Tuesday morning announcing the pop star's arrest and formal charges.   

Timberlake was in Sag Harbor, a wealthy Hamptons village that is a favorite summertime hangout for A-listers on Long Island. Following formal charges, the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office said he was released without bond. 

 

According to a charging document, Timberlake was pulled over by police in his grey BMW at around 12:30 EDT for running a stop sign and failing to stay on the right side of the road.

When officers stopped him, Timberlake's eyes were "bloodshot and glassy" and a "strong odour of an alcoholic beverage was emanating from his breath", the document said. His speech was slowed and he performed poorly on the officers' sobriety tests, officials said. He also refused a breathalyser test, according to records.

"I had one martini and I followed my friends home," Timberlake allegedly told the officer who stopped him, according to the BBC's US partner CBS News. He is scheduled to appear virtually in Sag Harbor court on 26 July.

Timberlake, 43, was set to embark on a global tour of his sixth album, Everything I Thought It Was. 

One of the best-selling musicians in the world, Timberlake is an actor, songwriter, and former member of the well-known boy band NSYNC.

The pop star has previously been candid about getting treatment for binge drinking. Penalties in the state of New York for driving under the influence include a $1,000 (£786) fine, a minimum six-month license suspension, and up to a year in jail.   

Timberlake was supposed to play two shows in Chicago this weekend and one in Madison Square Garden in New York City the following Tuesday. The ten-time Grammy winner is well-known for his parts in the motion pictures Friends with Benefits and The Social Network.  

Timberlake has two children with actress Jessica Biel, with whom he is married.
